Quite often I catch myself drifting along thru life and it is obvious that I have gotten off track somewhere. My eyes are not on Christ as they should be and thus my attitude towards life becomes very self-centered. Things and people tend to become prioritized in a selfish way and I lose sight of the real goal of the Christian walk.
Just wanted to write a few short words to encourage my brothers and sisters to be constantly aware of where they are going and what they are living for. Our hearts tend to move down the road of complacency very quickly. Without a conscious effort to keep our eyes on the King we will “drift” into apathy and then on into sin.
The cure for drifting is the same cure for any sin. To, as a preacher once said, “be distracted by the ascended Christ.” To be consumed with the glory of our King. To have His majesty so fill our hearts and minds that He is all we want. This is Christianity. The lukewarm sloppy mush that is so typical in our lives is a shame to the one who died to purify His bride. We are not our own for we were bought with a price. Drifting is evidence that we do not value walking with our King enough to get off our butts and seek His face.
So how do we become distracted by Christ? Well, as my life evidences I am not an expert on walking the saintly path. But I am willing to pass on what has been taught to me.
There are many means the Father uses to work in our lives to keep us alive spiritually. These are generally referred to as the ‘means of grace’. The two that I would specifically wish to bring up here are bible reading and prayer. Both of these are indispensable to the Christian walk. Without them both you will drift into a repetitious cycle of failure after failure after failure. Not that you will be perfect if you read your bible and pray but that these are the means God uses to keep us straight. Thru our seeking of Him He reveals Himself to us and then teaches us how to walk.
Do we love God?
This question is answered by our lives. If our lives evidence that we do not desire to seek God then the answer must be no. If I do not seek to know God in the means He commanded me to then it is evidence that my real hearts desire is directed at something other than Christ.
As believers we hold a treasure that cannot be compartmentalized to a small part of our lives. God demands our all and drifting is in His kingdom a rebellion to His Lordship. Get up and get going. Repent of the apathetical attitude toward your King and seek Him with all that you are.
He is worthy of your life. Give it to Him.
I am in the the same situation also. It is imperative that I make Jesus (Jhesua) the center of my life at all times. I waking up..during the day and going back to sleep..HE is my everything
Amen Jerry.
Its one thing to get all pumped up and race into battle.
Its another thing entirely to stay faithful and keep pressing on when everything in you longs to just let things slack for a bit.
Lets run this race faithfully.
